Local city and school election filings open
The filing period for federal, state, and county offices was May 18 through June 1, 2010.

Locally, county office positions open were: Kittson County Auditor/Treasurer, County Attorney, Recorder, Sheriff, Kittson County Soil and Water District Supervisors in Districts 3 and 4 and Kittson County Commissioners in Districts 3 and 5.

Candidates that filed were: Marilyn Gustafson, incumbent Auditor/Treasurer; Roger Malm, incumbent County Attorney; Kritsin Hultgren, incumbent Recorder; Kenny Hultgren, incumbent Sheriff; Joseph Bouvette, incumbent commissioner, district 3; Betty Younggren, incumbent commissioner, district 5; Justin Dagen, Kittson County Soil and Water Supervisor, District 3; Ronald J. Anderson, Kittson County Soil and Water Supervisor, District 4.

Because only the incumbents filed, they all move to the general election so the primary ballot in the primary election Aug. 10 will not have any local candidates on it, only federal and state candidates.

Other offices to be voted on locally in the 2010 election Nov. 2 are: State senator, U.S. Representative, State Representative, Judges, Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, State Auditor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Since none of the cities or school districts in Kittson County hold primaries, the filing period for those offices is Aug. 3 through Aug. 17, 2010.

Positions up for election, by city and school district are:

Donaldson: One (two year) council position and two (four year) council positions

Kennedy: Mayor (four year); two (four year) council positions

Hallock: two (four year) council positions

Humboldt: Mayor; city treasurer and two (four year) council positions

St. Vincent: Mayor; city treasurer; one (four year) council position and one (two year) council position

Lancaster: Mayor and two (four year) council positions

Lake Bronson: Mayor; two (four year) council positions and one (two year) council position

Halma: one (four year) clerk and one (four year) council position

Karlstad: Mayor and two (four year) council positions

Kittson Central School District 2171: three (four year) board members

Lancaster School District 356: three (four year) board members

Tri-County School District 2358: Four (four year) school board members
